What the ticket is
Two things in one price: admission to the museum at Wattens, with its Chambers of Wonder and its garden, and a seat on the shared return shuttle that leaves from Südtiroler Platz at the Hauptbahnhof. The audio guide is not in it — it is sold at the museum, in ten languages. Unaccompanied minors are not carried, so a teenager cannot be sent out there alone, and no pets travel other than assistance animals. The return shuttle fills up
This is the recurring complaint and it is worth more than a footnote. Mariana, from Mexico, had to stand the whole way back to Innsbruck. Dipa, from the UK, found it busy. The outbound run is comfortable and on time by every account I have read; it is the return that gets loaded, because everyone leaves the museum at roughly the same hour. If you would rather sit down for that half hour, leave the garden a little before the crowd does and be at the shuttle stop with time to spare. It is not a fault in the product so much as a shape of the day, but nobody tells you in advance.

Wattens and the castle in one day
It can be done, but it is a full day and the two pull in opposite directions: Wattens lies east of the city, Schloss Ambras sits about 3 km out to the south-east at Amras, and the castle stops selling and stops admitting at 17:00. Wattens in the morning and the castle from about two o’clock is the version that works. The castle’s own admission is sold through the platform at the same figure the castle’s shop asks, two euros under the price at the door, and it cancels free up to 24 hours before, so it is the half of the day you can fix first and move later.
